Leaders, Lead by Example

True leadership is influencing people through the way you speak, live and treat yourself according to God's instructions. Leadership begins with personal government before it becomes public influence. People may listen to your teachings, but they will study your lifestyle. What people consistently see in you will often speak louder than what they hear from you.

A leader who cannot manage himself will eventually struggle to lead others. Your words, emotions, relationships, decisions and personal discipline are all part of your leadership message. Before asking people to follow your instructions, ask yourself whether your own life reflects the principles you are teaching. Leadership is not simply about having people under your authority; it is about becoming an example worthy of being followed.

Paul instructed Timothy, “But be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12. This is the standard of kingdom leadership. Your influence should not come from intimidation, position or titles, but from the evidence of Christ in your character. The way you speak to people, handle correction, respond to pressure and treat those who cannot benefit you reveals the quality of your leadership.

Leaders must therefore pay attention to how they treat themselves. Do you honour the boundaries, values and instructions God has given you? Do you discipline yourself when nobody is watching? Do you practice what you demand from others? You cannot consistently lead people into a place where you have refused to walk yourself.

True leadership is not about controlling people; it is about influencing them toward God's purpose through your example. Allow the Holy Spirit to govern your character, conversations and conduct. When your life agrees with the message you preach, your influence becomes credible, your leadership becomes trustworthy and the people connected to you can see what it looks like to follow Christ in practical living.

The understanding of what you need to do with your life can only be received through God's word and the passion God's word creates in you.  Based on what you have studied in God's Word, whose pain do you feel the most and what do you think the Lord wants you to do about them?  You are the solution to the faults that gets your attention. You are the answers to the questions that bothers your heart.  I want to ask you again; what do you really want to do with your life? How do you intend to make every 24 hours of each day count in the place of impact?  Above all, your first responsibility as a leader is in you leading your self through the leadership of the Holy...
